On Friday after school, when all but a few had gone home, a miracle ‘cheep, cheep’ was heard in the nursery! Two of our seven eggs had survived the power cut and were beginning to hatch – 4 days late!!
We hadn’t switched off our incubator always hoping that somehow our chicks would hatch and had survived – our faith paid off!!
The chicks were struggling to hatch! They needed help to peel off some of the shell and form a ‘zip’. The photo shows the tweezers for peeling off the shell and hot cloths used to dampen the membrane.
At midnight the first chick hatched and then the second half an hour later!
